I welcome inquiries from motivated international doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career researchers who are interested in research related to energy finance, electricity markets, quantitative risk management, and data-driven modeling.
Possible research topics include, but are not limited to:
Energy finance and electricity market analysis
Electricity price forecasting
Time-series forecasting and probabilistic forecasting
Applications of AI and machine learning to energy markets
Market risk management and risk modeling
Weather derivatives and climate-related financial risk
Renewable energy integration, demand response, and market design
Related empirical, computational, and quantitative research topics
Visiting doctoral students
Doctoral students who remain formally affiliated with their home university may be considered for a short-term research visit, depending on research fit, timing, administrative feasibility, and available resources. (I have previously hosted an international doctoral student under this type of visiting arrangement. )
One possible route is the Science Tokyo Visiting Junior Fellows scheme:
Science Tokyo: Guide for hosting international researchers
Please note that this is not an employment scheme and does not provide a salary. Administrative approval is required. In general, visitors are expected to maintain a formal affiliation with their home university or research institution during the visit.
Postdoctoral researchers and recent PhD graduates
For postdoctoral researchers, the most realistic route is often to apply for an external fellowship that supports research in Japan. I may be able to serve as a host researcher if the research topic is well aligned and the administrative conditions are feasible.
Potential funding schemes include:
Applicants are also encouraged to check fellowship programs offered by their home country, current university, national funding agencies, or bilateral exchange programs with Japan.
Before contacting me
When contacting me, please include the following information:
A short CV
A publication list or representative papers
A brief description of your current research
Your current affiliation and academic status
Your expected visiting period
Whether you already have funding or plan to apply for a fellowship
A short statement explaining how your research interests relate to my work
Please understand that I cannot accept all inquiries. The possibility of hosting depends on research fit, timing, administrative requirements, funding availability, and laboratory capacity.
If your background and proposed research are relevant to the areas listed above, please feel free to contact me.
